Throughout the years, we’ve seen the desires of brides and grooms change.
There are wedding photography traditions that remain – the bride and groom doing separate photos prior to the ceremony, champagne toasts, fun candids at the reception.
However, at the same time, many have changed due to generational differences and advancements in technology. Here are some trends we’re seeing:
- Increased focus on photo coverage throughout the entire event. In addition to the traditional posed photos associated with weddings, more couples are gravitating to candid shots to capture each and every moment of their special day. These candid shots — whether they are with your parents, grandparents or close friends — offer treasured memories for years to come.
- The groom is important and taking part in the planning more than ever. Now, more photographers are focusing on the guys getting ready and “being guys” prior to the ceremony as well. His family will become part of the blended family, just as the bride’s will, so it’s great to cover all the angles for both & seeing brides embrace that trend.
- Ditching the formal bridal portrait. Traditionally, couples focused on having a formal bridal portrait to capture the bride of her special day. This has disappeared as couples focus on extended engagement sessions of the couple instead. Or course, if the bride or her parents want a formal portrait, outdoor sessions are beautiful and timeless. Some brides prefer stylistic images — like pictures of the wedding dress on the hanger, the bride’s shoes with her wedding band, even all angles of the dress immediately after stepping into it on the actual day, which is a great way to capture the emotions of what the dress actually means.
- Going Digital. Digital images make it easy to share on social media; however, skipping a wedding album may lead to regrets down the road. Digital files can be lost if you don’t back your images! Today’s albums are so creative, can express your personalities and show the joy & excitement, of that day and last for many years, so hopefully on milestone anniversaries, you have a beautiful book to look back at and make those wonderful memories fresh again! If you’re not disciplined with backing up your digital images and aren’t into making your own album, this is where the professional’s value truly shows. These images are what will be left after the big day is done!
