Tis almost the season for celebrating snow days (or in the south – chilly days), decorating your home and celebrating the season with family and friends. While it may seem early to talk about the best holiday card photo, finding the best shot takes some planning and preparation.
Believe it or not, there are some hidden secrets to choosing the best holiday card photo.
Many people set up a holiday photo session with the goal to have a perfect family photo as the end result. However, the “perfect” family photo showcases the personality and style of each family member at that time in their life.
Your son may look a little disheveled; perhaps your daughter doesn’t smile as much as you like; or the youngest one makes a face. The little imperfections in the photos are what makes your family what it is – embrace it and showcase it in your holiday card photo.
Showcase your year.
It’s hard to summarize your year in one photo, but you can try. Take a picture with the ribbon your son won in his science fair, or let your daughter wear her letterman jacket proudly. Whatever it is, use the photography to share the words that you would use to summarize your family’s year – it will make it more memorable and interesting for all to view.
Think about timing.
To get the best pictures, think about the best time of day to shoot your pictures. For instance, after lunch may bring about a slump – making half your group ready to take a nap. Think about a pre-dinner photo or even an early morning session to capture the morning energy.
Most people will include a holiday photo card that features everyone in the family sitting together. Get creative! Let your family stand out in their photo.
Do something fun, like holding the kids upside down by their feet, while you and your husband smooch. Or, wear funny matching outfits, ugly sweaters, or crazy hats. They’ll add pizazz and will be sure to capture the eyes of the people who receive your holiday cards. The best holiday card photo makes your recipients to smile at your image.
